Parish need to be hot if they are to beat Village

HAMILTON Parish Hot Peppers hope that upset number two is on the cards when they take on stiff Premier Division outfit North Village in Sunday's FA Cup final at the National Sports Centre.

It was just over a month ago ? March 6th precisely ? that they dumped another Premier Division side Somerset Trojans out of the competition with a stunning 2-1 victory at Southampton Oval. And now the First Division side are keeping their fingers crossed in the hope that they can follow up with another sensational performance which will land them Bermuda's most coveted trophy in football.

"It doesn't matter if we are the underdogs again, we are pumped up and ready to give a good performance up there at the National Sports Centre," said coach Joe Latham this week.

Inspiring them to victory over the westenders in the previous round were several additions to the First Division side which have struggled in league play ? 20-year old goalkeeper Nigel Burgess was brought home for the fourth time this season from school at Howard University in Washington DC while several senior players, now active in the Commercial League, made themselves available for the challenge which paid them great dividends.

And according to Latham all of them will be back leading the charge this weekend after playing vital roles in the previous victory ? Burgess particularly outstanding by making a number of sensational saves in goal.

"Yes, we will definitely have the same squad to pick from, everybody is available for us once again," he revealed.

In the semi-final the Trojans took a first-half lead on a goal by Rohaan Simons but the minnows hit back with an equaliser from Commercial Leaguer Shawn Dill while another player from that lower league ? speedy Irving Burgess ? clinched it with the winner after 77 minutes combining with yet another Commercial Leaguer Corey Hill.

"We realise that we will be facing more formidable opponents in North Village this time around, but we will certainly not be fearing them in this contest," said Latham.

He added: "We are now going up against a more organised unit, one that loves to try to control things but we know that if we remain sharp we can match them and even come way with a positive result if they are not at their best on the day."

While few in the sport expect them to conquer their opponents, Parish nevertheless feel that their chances are as good as any as long as the fans come out and give them the support.

The coach is calling for the whole of Hamilton Parish to come out and rally behind them to a historic victory.

"Everything is the same with us, the guys are geared up for it but it's a big field up there and we have to be sensible in how we approach it. I don't know what the result will be like but it isn't going to be a walkover. I actually expect it to be a very good match," he predicted.

North Village are coming off a 2-0 loss against Dandy Town in their final league game two weeks ago and Parish are obviously hoping that their opponents will lack momentum going into this final.

But Parish also realise the great potential of their opponents who have the ability to knock them out of sight if they play near their potential.

"I expect the whole of Hamilton Parish to be out supporting us and I mean the whole community. I want it to be said that the National Sports Centre has never had this many people up there.

"We need their support and I know they will answer our call and help to inspire us to good things," said the coach.

But Village player-coach Kentoine Jennings and skipper Ralph Bean Jr. may have something to say about that.
