GIBBONS Company yesterday issued a warning to purchasers of a Fisher-Price musical chair this week found to pose a strangulation hazard to infants.

Following recommendations from Fisher-Price, the Reid Street store is advising parents to take the Laugh & Learn Musical Learning Chair away from children immediately, and contact the manufacturing giant for a free repair kit.

Gibbons Company brought in four of the toys last November. The toy is about 17 inches high and is used to help children between the ages of 12 and 36 months understand numbers and letters.

A world-wide notice was sent out to distributors this week, informing them that the chair was a threat to users.

According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recall followed three accounts received by Fisher-Price "of young children getting their necks lodged between the seatback and the side table of the toy, including one report of a child receiving a welt on the neck".

Fisher-Price is offering a free repair kit which includes a plastic piece designed to fuse the area between the seatback and side table, preventing the possibility of entrapment.

Gibbons Company yesterday placed an advertisement in , advising parents of the threat.

"We sold the four we brought in and there's no more in stock," said a spokesperson for the company, Susan Bawn. "We're advising people to apply for the kit which will correct the problem."

Asked how often toys were recalled by manufacturers, she replied: "Not too often fortunately. I think this is only the third time since I've been here ? in 16 years ? that we've had to advertise about a recall."

Ms Bawn said in the past the recommendation was that consumers destroy the product but that was not the case with this toy.
