Unjuried works provide Yule treat for art lovers
A DIVERSE range of works by local artists will take centre stage at the Bermuda Society of Arts tonight.
More than 100 pieces have been hung as part of the Society's Winter Members' Show ? an unjuried body of works representing nearly every medium imaginable. As such, the exhibit is a treat for art lovers and could provide the perfect shopping arena for those in search of a guaranteed one-of-a-kind Christmas gift.
"We have sculptures, ceramics, nudes, batiks, assemblage, abstract works, realistic works, charcoals, digital and traditional photographs, papier-m?ch? ? a huge, diverse range of works," said gallery director Peter Lapsley.
"It is a huge show; a fantastic representation of the local art scene at this juncture; a good representation of the local arts community. It takes in all aspects of what local artists are doing."
Well-known and lesser-known names had come forward with truly imaginative works, he added.
A bronze sculpture by Bruce Stuart, colourful photographs by Robert Rogers, works by Kok Wan Lee and an original charcoal by Jennifer Faries are included in the display.
"I would guess that there's at least one piece of interest for everybody," Mr. Lapsley said. "It's definitely worth a visit ? you might even find a Christmas gift."
