Dance company puts faith in motion

The Reclaiming Our Youth (ROY) Movement will be holding a series of camps and workshops in July designed to help reclaim Bermuda's youth through dance.

"ROY Movement is a group of young ladies from the age of 12 through to 18 who are committed to serving the Lord," ROY Movement Dance Leader Alexis Haynes said.

"Originating from a Bible study group, our dance team evolved through the face of adversity. Led and encouraged by Lisa Osborne and Crystal Clay, ministry through dancing has become more than our passion, it has become our heart and soul.

"Our commitment and goal is to reclaim the youth, not only in Bermuda but also internationally. We have danced both locally and internationally. At home we have ministered at several events such as Gina Spence's Street Festival, the Byron Cage Gospel Concert (held by Love Alive Ministries), the Black History Month Spectacular, and Packwood Home for the Elderly. In April of this year we were invited to minister at a Christian conference in New Jersey, and in August of this year we will be travelling to minister in Chicago.

"As we anxiously endeavour to fulfil our goals, we have decided to take full organisational responsibility in the planning of our first production. The production is themed 'Called Out for His Glory', and will be held at the Ruth Seaton James auditorium at CedarBridge Academy on Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at 7.30 p.m. General admission is $20 and patron tickets are $40.

This production is part of a week-long camp and workshop series held by the Restoration Fellowship Dance Ministry Team.

"These classes will feature overseas guest dancers Dr. Ann Peterson-Higgin, the director of the Christian Caribbean Dance Network in the Bahamas, and Minister Sandy Mitchell of the Spirit Wings Dance Studio in Baltimore, Maryland.

"The camp will be held at the Bermuda College for children from ages eight through to 16 from July 5-July 10, 2004 (9 a.m. until 3.30 p.m.). For the day class registration is $100.

"Evening workshops will also be held at Bermuda College for adults from 17 years and over (7 p.m. until 9.30 p.m.). Registration for these workshops is $80.

"The week will culminate with a Creative Arts Festival and Celebration on Saturday, July 10, at the Fairmont Southampton Princess. Registration for these events is ongoing through Lisa Osborne at losbornbercol.bm, and will conclude on Friday, July 2, at the Bermuda College.

"This event will not only feature the ROY movement, but also those who participated in the week-long workshops and camp, our overseas guests and various representatives of dance ministries Island-wide. Tickets for this event are $20 for adults and $10 for children.

"The ROY movement would like to extend an invitation to the nation of Bermuda, especially the youth, to come out and receive a blessing. We look forward to seeing you there and thank you for your support."
