Editorial: Consultation

It is surprising and disappointing that more people have not attended public meetings on the transport plans being put forward by Government.

The plans, which aim to reduce congestion on the roads and to reduce pollution from vehicles, range the sensible to the controversial and from the reasonably cheap to the very expensive and information from them has been widely available in the media.

Those who oppose the plans will have no cause for complaint if they do not attend the meetings and express their opinions. And those who support specific measures should also make their voices heard because failure to do so may mean that the idea get dropped for lack of public support.

Those people who have not attended the meetings can still do so by writing to the Ministry of Transport; they should do so quickly.
