Historian Hankey's booklet tells story of first FA Cup

FOOTBALL historian Maurice Hankey has just released Cup Ties, which tells of how the first BFA Challenge Cup helped change the face of Bermudian football forever.Mr. Hankey's booklet tells the story of the first FA Cup competition in 1955/56 and includes old photographs from that time.

Much of the content appeared last year in the Mid-Ocean News Sports section under the heading BFA Anniversary Diary columns.

Last night during a presentation at the Southampton Rangers club, Mr. Hankey donated a number of the booklets to David Sabir, general secretary of the Bermuda Football Association.

Also in attendance were the players from the 1955/56 Rangers football team who were guests of honour.

The BFA will also make available copies of Cup Ties to all the member clubs as well as the libraries of the local middle and secondary schools along with the Bermuda College.

Mr. Hankey also donated two copies to the Bermuda Government Archives and five to the National Library for both circulation and reference.
