'Just a normal day'
“It was just a normal school day when all this began. My teacher told us the there was going to be an Environmental Youth Conference in an island called Bermuda, which is near the USA.
I gave my name for it. She also told us that it would be held in May, she also told us that the children would be selected on the basis of their academic excellence. This was a bit of a disappointment. After some days I was informed that I have been selected for the conference, I was amazed.
Then later I met the four other children who would be going with me to the conference. We went for training for about a month and a half about how we would tackle the questions that we might come across and also what we would be actually be doing there.
After we had finished we went to New Jersey. The next day we were in Bermuda. It was a marvellous place, we stayed with Richard and Mary Winchell, who had a wonderful house right next to the sea. Mrs. Winchell was one of the organizers of the conference. After all those speeches, the costumes and the posters room we had to prepare. I must say that it was a great experience and I would never forget all the people who made this conference possible, all the friends I made and of course our hosts, Richard and Mary Winchell. I hope I will visit Bermuda again.”
