Keegan gets another bite of the cherry
"IT is going to be interesting to see how Kevin Keegan does on his return to Newcastle. This will be the second time Keegan has taken charge of the Magpies. He will be getting another bite of the cherry and don't forget he was also England's manager as well. What I do know is that Keegan has a lot to do to turn around the fortunes of Newcastle who let Sam Allardyce go earlier this month after only a short stint as manager. I hope the owner will have some patience this time around and I believe that Keegan will need to bring in a few players to shore up the team and get rid of some players who are frankly not that good. Keegan watched Newcastle beat Stoke 4-1 on Wednesday night in an FA Cup third-round replay. He'll be in charge this Saturday for the match against Bolton.
That win over Stoke ended a six-game winless streak for Newcastle, who were absolutely crushed last weekend when Manchester United beat them 6-0 ¿ and it could have been more.
Since Keegan left Newcastle in 1997 the club has had six managers. I know Keegan is adored by the fans at Newcastle but they can turn against him if results do not go their way.
Keegan, who played for Newcastle back in the early 1980s, was one of the team's most successful managers when he was in charge from 1992-97. In the time he was in charge he managed to get the club from near relegation in the second division to runner-up in the 1996 and '97 Premier League. Let's see how he does this time around.

FA CUP
It is always great when you see a little team make their way through in the FA Cup. Like all football fans I was delighted to see non-league Havant and Waterlooville beat Swansea 4-2 in their third-round replay this week. And the reward could not be more delicious as they will now travel to Anfield for a date with Liverpool.
It is going to be something everyone on that team will remember for the rest of their lives and of course it will be a big pay day for the small club. When they come out of the dressing rooms and run on the pitch at the historic stadium they will be buzzing. I just hope they do not freeze up! But they have nothing to lose and should go out there with that attitude. Havant and Waterlooville play in the sixth tier of English football ¿ that is two below the lowest fully professional league! I don't think they will get past Liverpool but you never know ¿ this is after all the FA Cup.
My boys West Ham lost to Manchester City 1-0 to go out of the cup. We had a couple of chances but now that we are out of both cup competitions we can concentrate on the league. And that 2-1 win over Fulham last weekend was a nice three points. This weekend we can get some revenge when we again go to Manchester City in the league.
Luton saw their dreams come to an end in their replay against Liverpool at Anfield. Stevie Gerrard hit a hat-trick to help sink Luton 5-0 but at least the small club got some very-much needed money as they were in big trouble financially.

PATO
One of the best young Brazilian players today made his debut last weekend for AC Milan. And 18-year-old Pato made it a great debut as he scored in Milan's 5-2 victory over Napoli. And if anyone watched the match they would have seen Ronaldo ¿ with a new hairstyle ¿ strike two nice goals as well as Kaka scoring with a great effort. Although Milan have certainly not had their best Serie A season, they are going to be a force to reckon with. Now the attack will be comprised of three Brazilians ¿ World Player of the Year Kaka, former World Player of the Year Ronaldo and the teenage Pato who really showed how skilful he was at last summer's Under-20 World Cup in Canada.
There is a lot of media frenzy surrounding Pato but I hope they leave him alone a bit and let him develop in the team. He certainly has so many great players around him. I keep saying it over and over ¿ but I have to say it again. The Brazilians just keep coming up with great player after great player. There is no country in the world like Brazil.

KLINSMANN
Germany biggest, richest and most successful club have found their man to replace outgoing coach Ottmar Hitzfeld ¿ Juergen Klinsmann who made his coaching reputation as boss of Germany's national team at the 2006 World Cup where they made the semi-finals before being knocked out by eventual winners Italy.
Bayern fans were not happy with the team last year which failed to get a Champions League spot ¿ that is something the club should qualify for every year.
Klinsmann is still only 43-years-old but he showed he had the character to handle big jobs after the World Cup. He has got the likes of young stars Lukas Podolski and Bastian Schweinsteiger to work with as well.
Klinsmann was also mentioned this week when one of the new American owners of Liverpool said he had talked to the German in November about becoming manager of Liverpool.
That must not have made present Liverpool manager Benitez very happy. Benitez and the American owners have not seeing eye to eye this season and the Spaniard must know he has to have success with such a big club like Liverpool. They look out of it in the Premiership so he must keep it going in the Champions League and the FA Cup ¿ and also qualify for the Champions League next year if he wants to keep his job. He certainly has been given enough money by the owners to buys players and he has bought a number ¿ many who I have yet to see. But he did get a gem ¿ Torres who is one of the best in the Premiership. Just look at the scorching goal he scored last week for Liverpool in their 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough. But if things do not go right this season I feel Benitez could be out of a job this summer.
AFRICAN NATIONS CUP
The best players in Africa will be on display starting on Sunday when the African Nations Cup kicks off in Ghana and continues until the final on February 10.
The sad thing is that we probably will not see any of the games ¿ maybe some highlights on one of the sports channels. There are some excellent teams in Africa and I would love to see some of those matches. The tournament has been going on for over 50 years now and you would think in this day and age of technology we could get some coverage. Maybe I will be surprised and be able to find it on some station.
Some of the world's biggest stars will be playing ¿ Samuel Eto'o of Barcelona, Didier Drogba of Chelsea, Kolo Toure of Arsenal and Mahamadou Diarra of Real Madrid, Michael Essien from Chelsea along with Frederic Kanoute from Sevilla, Emmanuel Eboue of Arsenal, Aiyegbeni Yakubu from Everton, Obafemi Martins of Newcastle and Chelsea's John Obi Mikel.
There are a number of teams who could win it ¿ Ghana will obviously have a big advantage since they are hosting it and will have a lot of support but you can never count out the likes of Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Cameroon.

TRINIDAD
Former Colombia coach, Francisco Maturana, who led his country to two World Cup appearances, has been installed as the new manager of Trinidad and Tobago who Bermuda will face in the 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign if we get by the Cayman Islands.
And while Maturana is obviously a very good coach as he led Colombia to the 1990 and 1994 World Cups, I am unhappy at how outgoing coach Wim Rijsbergen was treated by the Trinidad association.
They say that Dutchman Rijsbergen got into a fight with Trinidad's technical director, Lincoln Phillips, and they suspended the coach for six months. Well I know Rijsbergen very well having played with him at Feyenoord and I can tell you he is a calm man and not violent at all. I suppose we will never know exactly what happened but I can tell you that sometimes people in the islands ¿ and that includes us in Bermuda ¿ think we know it all. Well we don't.
Rijsbergern is a very smart guy and a good coach. Hopefully he gets picked up by a good team.
