Letters to the Editor

I would go further than your recent correspondent about music on the ferries. Why is any music necessary? We don't ( fortunately) have it on buses. I heard none on a recent Amtrak journey. It is optional on planes. The ferries would be a truly relaxing experience without the intrusion of someone else's choice of music.

Stop the ferry music

July 21, 2005

Dear Sir,

I would go further than your recent correspondent about music on the ferries. Why is any music necessary? We don't ( fortunately) have it on buses. I heard none on a recent Amtrak journey. It is optional on planes. The ferries would be a truly relaxing experience without the intrusion of someone else's choice of music.

I wrote to Marine and Ports a couple of years ago to complain about the inability to escape the sound of the seven Bose speakers on the top deck of the fast ferries. No acknowledgement of my letter, of course. I hoped that our climate would take care of the speakers but it hasn't happened yet. They will probably outlast the ferries.
