Time to go
June 8, 2006
Dear Sir,
Only in Bermuda could an UNELECTED person have seemingly so much "power", not to say vitriolic opinion which continuously and amazingly gets air time by the media. Sen. Burch clearly needs to go. Judging by his latest pearls of wisdom his mouth is seemingly and apparently bigger than his brain.
And let's not even talk about the diabolical and totally unacceptable treatment of our Auditor General Mr. Larry Dennis. Bermuda truly is "Another World"!

Stop the madness
June 12, 2006
Dear Sir,
I find it hilarious that Sen. David Burch is trying to blame the landlords of office space in Hamilton for the rental costs that Government and hence the taxpayers are facing. In the daily last week, the Works & Engineering Minister said office space was costing the Government (read taxpayers) $8.5 million per year and it could rise to $12 million the following year!
I put it to the Minister that if his Government hadn't hired on as many as 700 additional civil servants since they came to power in 1998, they wouldn't need the extra rental space in the first place which has obviously contributed to such a large rental bill.
Unfortunately, the increased rentals aren't the only costs that the taxpayers have to face at this point in time. All those new Government employees will have pension plans that will need to be funded by taxpayers in the future. And let's not forget the new salaries that the Government just approved for themselves. These higher salaries will also lead to larger pensions for Government members which we the taxpayers, yet again, will have to fund. When will this madness stop?

Shame on both parties
June 9, 2006
Dear Sir,
Please allow me a little space to voice my opinion about the dismal failure of the amendment to the Human Rights Commission proposed on May 26.
I ask the UBP, where are you? I ask the PLP, have you lost your vision? The PLP's platform has always been "about the people", but here they blatantly disregard a minority for a greater majority, the church. And where is the UBP? They missed a tremendous opportunity to present and show us, the people, that they are a strong opposition, and therefore a contender in the next elections. But most importantly, to show all of Bermuda, that they have never lost sight of US, the people that have the power to elect them back into Government.
I say shame on both parties. The PLP for being so backwards, and the UBP for missing this tremendous opportunity. With parties like these, how are we ever going to be able to move forward as one nation, one people, equal rights for all? How are we going to be able to get out from under this dictatorship rule and return to democracy?
I urge the UBP to wake up! We need you! Please don't lose sight of us, we need to trust in you to be a strong opposition, to be our voice. We need you to show us, and the PLP, that we important, that you haven't forgotten about us. Next time, if you are so lucky, I urge you, speak up and pick a side! Pick the people!
