Terceira and Classic Lady come out on top

BERMUDA international show jumper, Jillian Terceira, saw her outdoor season start off with a bang last month when she rode her mare Classic Lady to first place at the Stubben International Amateurs Challenge in Eindhoven, Holland.

Terceira, who has been living and competing in Europe for a number of years, said: "It was my second international show for the outdoor season this year. Classic Lady is really showing what she's got at 12-years-old. And she will have many years to come!"

The Bermudian also rode her her stallion Navantus in the same competition but said that he is "taking a little longer to get back to top form".

Navantus was 14th and 24th in the competition in Holland.

Terceira said her indoor season was curtailed somewhat. "My six horses had a light indoor season as I tore my PLC in my left knee at the three-star CSI in Mechelen in December."

But she is planning to make up for lost time this summer. "I am looking forward to competing in four competitions in France as well as three in Holland and two in Belgium this summer," she added.

Last year Terceira had been hoping to compete in this summer's Olympics in Greece. But then she found out that she would have had to do well at the Pan American Championships in the United States. That wasn't the problem however. The problem was that she was informed that under European Community rules her horse would have to be quarantined for six months on her return to her home in Belgium.

Now she is setting her sights on the World Cup final in 2005 and the World Equestrian Games in 2006.

Terceira was also married last year to Belgian vet Michel Heyzaert.
