VISITOR'S VIEW
August 15, 2005
Dear Sir,
What happens when two young ladies from Switzerland and Germany want to go to Hamilton at night and it is raining? What happens when they want to catch the bus but they are standing on the wrong side of the street, because they forgot that cars drive on the left side? What happens if its 10.30 p.m. and the last bus was at 10.16 p.m.?
Nothing happens ... because probably they won't realise it until a taxi stops to tell them that they are wasting their time by waiting for this bus! But it's not any taxi ... it's the most special one on the whole island. It's the taxi-driving Louis Armstrong, better known as Noel Lathan, taking the ladies to Hamilton.
"Blue posts take you to the west, pink ones to the east," he explains, or how did that exactly work out? Suddenly he started to humm a song. From this moment it wasn't Noel anymore, driving the taxi. It seemed to be the Original ? Louis Armstrong. And the young ladies realise that it wasn't only a very nice ride to Hamilton but also a free concert.
"My uncle", he kept on telling them, "taught me to sing like Louis."
Oh what a wonderful voice, a wonderful ride in a wonderful world, also known as Bermuda!
Thanks Noel Lathan or shall we say, thanks Louis Armstrong!?
