Visitor's View: You are still beautiful
February 5, 2002
Dear Sir,
I want to tell you a true story.
Last May, after a 45-year gap, I finally revisited Bermuda on a much needed vacation with my significant other. I was last in your country in June, 1956 to participate in a two-week tennis camp.
My memories of that time in Bermuda were wonderful and I wanted to get back but never could make my commitments and schedule agree.
Finally, when my significant other, who had never visited Bermuda before, suggested we go for a week's vacation, I jumped at the chance. As you can imagine my memories of Bermuda, its beautiful beaches, Hamilton (and Trimingham's), perfumed flowers, colours, the water, all came back. But I wondered as I packed my suitcase if it would be as good as I remembered. So many times when one revisits after years, the memories are far more pleasant than actuality.
Well, dear Bermuda, you are still as wonderful as I remember - even after so many years! Although Hamilton is a little more bustling, the colours, the fragrance of the flowers, sunny beaches, the wonderful and kind Bermudians are as I remembered. Forty-five years ago I went around the island on a bicycle; last year we took public transportation. I must compliment you on your excellent bus service. We in the States could learn a thing or two from you!
What a happy thing to be able to come back and have all one's memories still real. My significant other and I plan to visit again soon. And I am sure our subsequent visits will add even more happy memories.
Thank you for keeping Bermuda the beautiful place I remember!
