Hi dear readers,

While I was out on leave, often times I forgot what day it was. Since I had nowhere to go, it really did not matter until it struck me out of the blue that hurricane season was right around the corner and for the second consecutive year, I was ill prepared. Well, sort of.

I had some roof repairs completed in the event of torrential showers (thanks guys!), I still had my bucket and rope on hand (remember last year?) and I knew I had some candles stashed off somewhere in a drawer, but guess what—a match could not be found, even after I searched high and low. So, I made a mental note to stock up on the rest of my hurricane supplies the next day but needless to say, it’s now almost eight weeks into the season and I still have not purchased anything.

But I will soon. Why? Because out of all of the lessons to be learned pertaining to hurricanes, this one is the most important—ALWAYS be prepared!

We all know that hurricane seasons can be very unpredictable. Warm and sunny today, high winds and heavy showers, tomorrow.

A year ago this time, I am sure that no one would have thought the name Katrina would still be resonating in their minds months after it hit land, leaving many displaced long after the last surge. People still remain unaccounted for. We must remember to count our blessings on our tiny Island which has yet (and hopefully, never) to receive a hit that we could not bounce back from.

Take a moment, dear readers, to make a hurricane supply list and buy everything that you need before it’s too late. Don’t wait until it’s predicted that a storm is right around the corner to take action. I know I won’t.
