Monday's edition of The Royal Gazette carried a report on a Sunday church service giving thanks for the new-found peace in Sierra Leone.

Among the speakers was Puisne Judge Ian Kawaley, whose father is from Sierra Leone.

Mr. Justice Kawaley was quoted as saying that his family is descended from George Wilson, who came to Bermuda through military service in 1899 and is believed to be one of the first people from Sierra Leone to come to the Island voluntarily.

The Kawaley family has since stated that such a family link is not known of, and asked for the following clarification to be printed:

"When in 1951 Solomon Kawaley arrived from England to join the staff of the Berkeley Institute he was surprised and delighted to meet a Mr. David Wilson, another Sierra Leonean who had come to Bermuda in 1899 and settled here. He raised a productive family including the well known youth leader Sammy Wilson MBE. David Wilson is believed to be one of the first people from Sierra Leone to come to the Island voluntarily."
