In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies (BFIS), the Board of Trustees dedicated its newest scholarship, worth $30,000 a year for up to four years, in honour of its founder, Brian Hall OBE.

Since the inception of BFIS, Mr. Hall has funded the equivalent of a BFIS scholarship annually and in the past ten years over $2.35 million has been awarded to students - of which 45 have since graduated. Overall, just over $8 million has been raised in pledged donations, of which over $6 million is invested in an Endowment Fund.Mr. Hall expressed his delight that so much has been achieved over such a short period of time.

He says the effectiveness of BFIS is continually being felt both in the industry which supports it, and in the schools where BFIS promotes opportunities for Bermudians to enter the Island's primary industry.

"The results to date have definitely proven the need and value for BFIS into the future. We would not have been achieved without the support of the representatives of our member companies, the mentors, and the sustained commitment of our Executive Director, Cathy Lapsley," he says.
