Megan Spurling has set her sights on firing Bermuda to field hockey success at next year’s CAC Games.

And the 20-year-old Kent State University, Ohio student is certainly going about her preparations in the right way.

Spurling finished second on her team for goals scored this season and sixth in the entire conference with nine strikes.

The third year student, who is majoring in physical education and minoring in education, was also named the Mid American Conference Player of the Week and KSU Student Athlete of the Week recently.

The honours came after the former Saltus student scored the winning goals against Lousiville and Miami. “My goal on my university team is to continue to develop my personal game and to be a respected leader and goalscorer for the team in my final year of eligibility,” she said.

But Spurling’s ambitions are not just restricted to her university. “I was captain of the Bermuda Under-21 team on their last trip in 2000 to Barbados and a member of the Bermuda national team that travelled to Trinidad in August,” said Spurling, who captained the Swifts when on the Island. “I also hope to compete — and win some games — in the CAC Games this summer.

“However, my ultimate dream is to play and coach on Bermuda’s very own astroturf field.”
