Stiff fines for cannabis possession
Three people appeared in court yesterday and admitted cannabis possession.
The first case involved Donna Lee Cann, whose house on Scott’s Hill Road, Sandys, was raided by narcotics officers in a morning swoop.
The court heard the defendant, 41, told Police there were drugs in the master bedroom, and officers later went there and recovered cannabis from a wooden container on top of a dresser. Tests revealed it contained 3.14 grams of the drug. Cann, who apologised to the court for the September 7 incident, was fined $800 by magistrates.
In a separate case, Jason DeCouto was stopped by the Police Support Unit who saw him driving strangely on Frog Lane, Devonshire, on June 17.
When asked if he had any drugs, DeCouto told Police he had “a little weed”.
When the car was searched, the defendant handed officers a container from the driver’s door which was later found to contain 2.12 grams of cannabis.
DeCouto, 26, of Southcourt Avenue, Paget, was fined $1,100 yesterday. He also admitted possessing a plastic grinder in connection with use of drugs.
The final case saw Henry Tuzo fined $800 for possession of less than a gram of cannabis.
The court heard the Paget resident was searched by the Police Support Unit on June 10 at the corner of Rosebank and Bermudiana Road.
A Police drug sniffer dog was alerted to the defendant who told officers he had a spliff in his sock. A small self-sealed bag, later found to contain 0.77 grams of cannabis, was found in a sock.
The 31-year-old, of Dudley Avenue, was fined $800 by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner. The three defendants had no previous convictions, the court was told.
