Wedding dresses for the pregnant mom

Gone are the days when being with child meant expectant mothers were confined to wearing baggie tees and bottoms a few sizes too big for nine long months.

Nowadays, it is becoming easier for pregnant women to look good on any every occasion<\m> even on their wedding day.

“We have wedding dresses for pregnant women regardless of how far along they are,” says Amanda Hamza, who owns New Additions Boutique along with Tracy Paiva.

Located on King Street in Hamilton, New Additions has been offering trendy clothes and accessories for expectant mothers for the last two years.

Mrs. Hamza tells The Royal Gazette <$>the idea came to open a store such as theirs after Mrs. Paiva, a mother of two, travelled to Canada to buy maternity clothes, in vain.

“She was three months along when she bought the items but by the time she grew, they did not fit her anymore. It was through that frustration that we opened.”

Both women were experienced operating room nurses.

While Mrs. Paiva remains in the medical field, Mrs. Hamza runs the business full time.

Along with offering maternity clothing for every occasion, New Additions offers rental dresses to brides in a variety of colours.

Prices start at $60. Mrs. Hamza says several women on the Island have utilised them without reservation.

When asked if she thought by offering rental dresses, the proprietors were condoning ‘shotgun weddings’, she replies: “It’s a personal choice when a person decides to get married. We are non-judgmental and nobody should be judging them.”
