Welcome to our fun in the sun summer special
The Royal Gazette is proud to produce its first “The Heat is On” supplement which gives our readers many suggestions on how to enjoy summer on our beautiful Island. We hope that you will find the articles interesting and helpful when planning your summer playtime.
Our Paget Island feature with caretaker Andre Hollinsid is sure to delight you as it is a beautiful island glistening in the sun in St. George’s Harbour. It is a great place to get away with your family. You can fish off of the rocks, lie in the sun, swim, snorkel and roast marshmallows by an evening campfire. Aerial pictures by David Skinner will help you view several of our many beaches sparkling in the sun and most of these beauties are open to the public, such as beautiful Horseshoe Bay and Warwick Long Bay on the spectacular South Shore.
A very popular beach is Tobacco Bay, St. George’s, as it is quite shallow and protected with a snack bar, snorkels, showers, restroom and changing facilities.
If you can’t take the sun go for an early morning or evening horseback ride with Nick DeCosta’s Inwood Stables on Radnor Road at Shelly Bay. Sitting upon a horse you get a great view of Bermuda’s natural beauty especially if you are riding along the shore or a wooded path. St. George’s Steven Hayward shares his passion for jet skiing all round Bermuda. He really knows how to have fun in the sun or shade and especially in the turquoise sea. For all the Cup Match divas make sure you get pictures of yourself at the Cup Match games for next year’s “The Heat is On” supplement. We want to see those great “Cup Match Outfits” designed to turn heads.
Also try out our summer recipes for fried chicken and berry pie, and pack an elegant picnic basket for your intimate interlude or family gathering at a quiet cove like Clarence Cove, Admiralty House Park, Pembroke. It is tranquil and yet there are caves and tunnels to explore.
If you find yourself exhausted after long days in the sun treat yourself at one of the eateries at the Elbow Beach Hotel, such as Mickey’s on the beach. Executive chef, Max Olivari, makes sure the food is elegant and delicious at the Lido complex beside the sea.
Listen to the waves lap upon the shore while enjoying cool drinks and fantastic food.
Enjoy!
