Outstanding young persons praised
Outstanding Young Persons Awards.
Miss Jennifer Smith (PLP) said it was interesting that both winners of the awards presented by the Bermuda Junior Chamber-- Mrs. Maria Davis and Miss Shanda Simmons -- were teachers.
She also congratulated retiring teachers Mr. Chesley Trott and Dr. Juanita Guishard.
Mr. Trott, a teacher of 39 years and a well-known artist, most recently taught at Warwick Secondary. Dr. Guishard, a teacher of 15 years, most recently taught at St. George's Secondary.
The Hon. Sir John Sharpe (UBP) asked that condolences be sent to the family of the late Mr. Henry Algernon Joseph Simons.
He said Mr. Simons was the longest serving officer of the Warwick Workmans Club, a devout member of the Fraternity of Freemasons and in 1978 was awarded Grand Lodge Honours by the Grand Lodge of Ireland. He said Mr. Simons served on the parish vestry and was propelled to the highest offices of the church.
Sir John also congratulated Premier the Hon. Sir John Swan on reaching his 57th year.
Dr. David Dyer (UBP) asked that condolences be sent to the family of the late Mrs. Olive Trott, a teacher at Purvis Primary for 37 years.
PLP MP Mr. Dennis Lister extended congratulations to Pastor Carlyle Simmons of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, who was recently chosen as the president of the Seventh Day Adventist Conference.
The Hon. C.V. (Jim) Woolridge (UBP) asked that condolences be sent to the family of the late Mrs. Ethyl Burgess.
Mr. Walter Roberts (PLP) asked that condolences be sent to Mr. Julian Burrows on the passing of his wife, Muriel `Movie' Burrows.
Mrs. Grace Bell (UBP) sent her condolences to the family of the late Mr. Ralph Smith. She said he was a long-serving former employee of the US Air Force. Mr.
Gilbert Darrell (NLP) asked that condolences be sent to the family of the late Mr. Neville Somner.
