Punishment fits the crime October 16, 2000

The "animal'' that stabbed the dog with a brutal attack and left it bleeding and near death should be placed in the St. George's stocks for a week. One notes the cowardice when he had to tie the dog so that it could not escape.

Hopefully the judical system has the power to mete out such a sentence -- a sentence the he would never be able to live down. That would truly be "Poetic Justice''.

DIANA E. WILLIAMS Pembroke Throw the book at him! October 17, 2000 Dear Sir, I write this letter to express my utter disgust and contempt for this low life who was found guilty yesterday of brutalising the poor pitbull. Your paper states that he decided "to be a man and admit it''. To call himself a "man'' is the grossest insult, not only to males but to the human race.

A maximum fine of $1,000 and/or up to one year in prison is the only deterrent we have on our books for this type of heinous crime. Does this not yet again demonstrate the need to amend the laws as they pertain to animal cruelty? This "thug'' (as his aptly lettered sweater states) needs to receive a judgment which will make him realise that we, as a society, will not tolerate this cowardly crime.

Now the SPCA is appealing for donations to pay for this dog's medical bills.

That is outrageous. Perinchief should be made to pay all the expenses incurred with this poor dog's recovery, in addition to his fine and custodial sentence.

Why should the decent, kind well wishing people of Bermuda foot the bill for this worthless member of society. Please Judge, let the people of Bermuda know that our judicial system will not tolerate this disgusting behaviour and throw the book at him! ANNIE SOUSA Paget A matter of Trust Dear Sir, I would like to thank `Watchdog' for the letter in your paper. I realised I was not the only one to have thoughts about the Bermuda Trust. I do know they were better with the Bank of Butterfield and Mr. Roderick Ferguson. I believe the Bermuda Housing Trust should go back with the Bank and have a board of its own and money from the Trust should be spent only by the Trust and confirmed by the Trust board. The board members could be Mrs. Kim Young, Dr. Grant Gibbons, Mr. David Sullivan, Mr. Allan David Marshall, Pam Gordon's daughter (lawyer) and a person from the Bank.

Two small apartments have taken from May to September and not finished yet. If Bermuda Housing is going to use this contractor again they should think again.
