Larger loads make up for bad weather

A Government tug went to the assistance of the ship, which anchored temporarily. However, she was able to get into Hamilton Harbour on her own.
Meyer Agencies reported the ship in port with 67 dry containers, six refrigerator containers, a trailer with trampoline equipment for the Agricultural Exhibition, a tractor, a Safari van, a boat trailer, 15 bundles of lumber and seven bundles of steel and pipe.
Heavy rains throughout Tuesday left Somers Isles and Bermuda Islander idle as stevedores are not allowed to work in wet weather.
The Bermuda Islander also arrived on Tuesday morning carrying 77 dry containers and seven refrigerator containers, four horses and two trucks.
The research vessel Endeavour , which works out of the University of Rhode Island, berthed at Penno's Wharf to take on provisions. The vessel is involved in long-term oceanographic work south of Bermuda. She is to sail tomorrow to continue her on-ocean work.
The Bold Venture was also in port this week with 24 40-foot containers for the US Navy. She is berthed at Marginal Wharf.
The car ship Ocean Express is due in Hamilton this weekend with 54 cars. She is currently sailing to the Island from Santo Domingo.
Harnett & Richardson reported the car ship Bright Ace in port on Saturday to deliver 17 vehicles and 10 cases of spare parts. She left on Sunday for Panama.
Container Ship Management's Oleander steamed in on Sunday with 175 dry containers, 38 refrigerator containers, a Sea Ray boat, Snipes for Race Week, as well as chassis and loose cargo. The ship's big load was due in part to transshipment vessels last week missing connections because of recent rough Atlantic weather.
Bigger loads on the container ships is also an indication of businesses gearing up for the busy tourist season.
On the cruise ship scene, Meyer Agencies reported the Meridian berthing at Dockyard yesterday with 729 visitors. She is scheduled to sail today.
Harnett & Richardson said the Noordam's Saturday visit in Hamilton brought 687 cruise visitors. She was only in port for the day.
The US Navy frigate Trippe berthed at the US Naval Annex on Monday for for five-day rest and relaxation visit for her 288 crew.
