Three's a crowd January 06, 2001
I only write to inform Robert Stewart that the only Bermudians that appear `psychologically insecure' are those who are opposed to the prospect of an independent Bermuda.
Three that immediately come to mind are Joyce Hall, Trevor Moniz and you guessed it, Robert Stewart.
ROLFE PATTON COMMISSIONG Hamilton Misleading ad January 04, 2001 Dear Sir One day a few weeks ago, I had clipped a coupon printed in The Royal Gazette , an advertisement from the Liberty Theatre with "Admit One Value: $4'' and "Admit One Value: $7''.
Thinking that finally a local establishment has offered a holiday treat for people during this joyous occasion, I took my family of four to see `The Castaway'.
When we got to the cashier's window, a young man snickered as I presented the coupon. He said, "This is not good.'' So, I said, "What do you mean?'' He repeated, "This is not good here.'' I was puzzled by his answer and asked again why it would not be good. He answered, "It's just an advertisement.'' To that remark I said, "Well, this makes us think that it's a coupon for free tickets.'' He said, "Of course, that's the whole idea.'' I asked, "Have you had other people come with these coupons?'' "Yes, many'', he answered.
"Well, this is false advertisement'', I continued.
He said, "Well, we haven't been sued yet!'' I was so astounded and sickened by the fact that we were tricked into thinking we were going to save some money. I have seen countless movies at Liberty and never had a problem there.
But, from this experience, I will wait until those movies shown there come out on videos.
Most of the time, we as consumers must read the fine print between paragraphs but I was more shocked that, in this case, there was no fine print.
Anywhere else this would mean a consumer agency action against the theatre or, at least, loss of business because word of mouth travels fast.
Have they taken us as fools? We need an apology from Liberty Theatre and they will have to produce a more creative, appealing and honest advertisement in the future.

Southampton Just visiting friends Dear Sir, (Tourism minister David) Allen is too quick to praise his tourism department in Canada for the small increase in Canadian visitors.
Common sense will tell you that because we have, in the past few years, had an influx of qualified Canadians working in Bermuda in the accounting, banking, construction and re-insurance industries, you will have an increase of persons visiting their friends and family.
Nothing to do with his department promoting Bermuda. Again, Mr. Allen is talking through the wrong part of his anatomy.
