LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Praise for Dr. ShultzDecember 7, 2009Dear Sir,

Praise for Dr. Shultz

December 7, 2009

Dear Sir,

After reading the letter in today's Gazette paying tribute to Dr. Edward Schultz, I am another Bermudian who would like to pay tribute to the fine service that he has given to Bermuda at the emergency department of the King Edward Hospital.

For so many years he has been one of the only reasons for keeping faith in KEMH. He is a real hero in this community and a person of great trust and respect.

I agree he is most deserving of an award of honour.

Steering our course

December 14, 2009

Dear Sir,

How can there be harmony in Bermuda if the majority of the things that are important to us are approached from a competitive frame of mind? That is why we are accomplishing very little that is really positive and progressive. How are we as Bermudians going to coax our children into making a more concerted effort to improve themselves in the environment in which they live?

It is our responsibility to guide them toward better thoughts and understanding, by helping them to make better decisions and choices for themselves and by encouraging them to stand firm on the things they find to be correct.

After all is said and done, we are all captains of this ship called Bermuda. We shall all go in the direction in which we steer it. There are indications that we harbour thoughts on the compass of our minds that need correction before we can be onward bound successfully.

Poor customer service

December 8, 2009

Dear Sir,

Let me start at the beginning. On Wednesday, October 28, 2009 I had to take my truck in to HWP because the windshield had been smashed. They replaced the windshield but somehow they broke the side window in the drivers door whilst repairing it. When I picked the truck up on Friday, October 30, 2009 the HWP employee who served me assured me that the replacement part, which was not in stock, would be there in two weeks and they would call me to fix it.

Two weeks passed, no phone call. Three weeks passed, no phone call. I finally called them and all I could get is the royal run-around and more promises to call. Now it's December 8, so I decide to go into the shop itself and see what I could find out. Once again I got the royal run around. It would appear no one in that department is familiar with my predicament and after a long wait what happens? They tell me the part will be in two weeks and I should check back then.

Now, Mr. Editor, by this time I am royally upset. Do you think I could get any satisfaction from these people, when I called to speak to the managing director they wanted to give me the same manager I was so frustrated with. These people do not have a clue as to what good service is! What's going to happen in two weeks time? Will I be subject to the same run-around that I got? There would appear to be no organisation in their business. What is really sad, is that I live in a society which is so well-off and full of monopolies that people are forced to 'take it or leave it'.

Well I for one, am going to leave it. My brother is talking about purchasing a new truck and he is not too keen on HWP. After this experience I am inclined to agree and wonder if the proprietors of that business really care about what their customers think. Their staff obviously do not! Thank you for the space, Mr. Editor.
