Update from Masterworks

February 18, 2009

Dear Sir,

This month marks the first anniversary of the opening of The Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art and in that time we have mounted three exhibitions in the main gallery, the most recent last Friday night entitled "32N/64W: a revelation: Bermuda's Black Artistic Legacy". This was the most rewarding opening of all, as we were able to embrace the whole community and highlight the talents of the artists on the Island currently during Black History Month.

The show continues until June 6, 2009 it is not definitive — rather a compendium of some of the black artists currently working here. We would like to thank: Theresa, Hans and Sarah Tucker, family of Charles Lloyd Tucker for their support and the loan of the painting "Hamilton Hotel on Fire".

The generosity of our sponsors: Ross "Blackie" Talbot Charity Classic, American Friends of Masterworks, Deborah Butterfield, Carol Faries, Anonymous Donor for sponsoring this special exhibit.

Aspen Re and Panatel for sponsoring the two DVD's, — Charles Lloyd Tucker documentary and Shinbone Alley.

Janice Tucker (daughter of John James Warner — founder of Warner Gombey Troup). Margarite and Ryan Tucker for the Talbot Brothers hats, records and ephemera.

Beverley and Gill Tucker for the loan of the Talbot Brothers shirts painted by hand by Charles Lloyd Tucker.

Trevor Todd for his help in modelling for the gombey position and for the loan of the headdress.

The Garden Club of Bermuda for floral arrangements. Jan MacDonald for the inordinate mount of time she gave helping to put the show together. Fiona Cusack for doing such a marvellous job organising the volunteers and making sure all bases were covered. John Dale and Ray Charbonneau for their Trojan efforts in hanging and organising the installation. As one artist stated "thank you for making me know who I am".
