Ships delay arrival to avoid TS Bertha
As Tropical Storm Bertha struck the Island on Monday, Bermuda's cruise ship visitors were left out at sea for a day.
Both the Norwegian Majesty and the Explorer of the Seas were scheduled to arrive on Monday, but due to high winds and rough seas neither was able to dock until yesterday.
The Norwegian Majesty berthed in Hamilton with 1,750 passengers, and will stay on the Island until tomorrow morning when it departs to Baltimore.
The Explorer of the Seas berthed at Kings Wharf yesterday, only to leave again yesterday afternoon to return to Baltimore. It carried to the Island 3,595 for its brief stay.
The Norwegian Dream arrived as scheduled yesterday at noon, missing the storm. It will stay docked at Kings Wharf until Friday, when it returns to New York.
Also arriving yesterday was the Somers Isles, which discharged 163 containers on the Island, including five reefers, two tanks, and two trucks.
The Bermuda Islander is scheduled to arrive at port tomorrow morning from Salem, New Jersey. On board are 186 containers to be delivered to the Island, including 30 reefers, six flatracks, and two tanks.
The only ship that managed to make it to port Monday was the Oleander, which carried 196 containers to the Island, including six road trailers, four buses, five cars, two trucks and two boats on trailers.
