For many the party is just starting.2011 will mark the fifth year that there will be the Soca versus Reggae concert which this year will be staged at Tiger Bay Gardens in St George’s, just a short stroll from Wellington Oval.As it stands now the sides are even with two wins for the Reggae side and two for the Soca side the Reggae side are the current champions, having also won in 2007 while Soca ruled the stage during 2008 and 2009.The Reggae side will be led by 2010 winner Poison Dart who will also be supported by special guest performer Wayne Marshall and YGS while Ox Mighty will lead the challenge for the Soca team alongside Soca warrior Bunji Garlin and Tony Tempo.The action on stage will start at 9 pm and will go until the early hours of Saturday morning.And if it is anything like last year’s party at Snorkel Park in the West End, a good time will be had by all.Last year Reggae supporters seemed to be more abundant from the start of the festivities but the slight Soca minority definitely brought more volume, which made ‘getting loud’ naturally easier for them.This year Wayne Marshall a reggae and dancehall artist from Jamaica is expected to re-amp up the proceedings. He is most notable for his collaborations with Sean Paul, Elephant Man and Beenie Man.Poison Dart are back.With their collection of records and knowledge of reggae music, Poison Dart quickly became one of Antigua’s top juggling and war machine by playing at block parties entering in Antigua’s Island Clash.Bunji Garlin is from Trinidad and Tobago.Bunji has won Trinidad’s Soca Monarch competition on several occasions and in 2009 he placed second in the International Soca Monarch.Bunji Garlin’s “Brrt” is also featured on the Grand Theft Auto IV soundtrack.Tony Tempo is an international award winning DJ, based in Atlanta, and creator of the one of the most unique Internet sites for Soca music that started it all in 1999. His vision is to bring Soca music into the main stream.His creative mixes incorporate the latest sounds from hip-hop, reggae, salsa and his beloved Soca music from Trinidad and Tobago, as well as the best Caribbean hot spots. His sound keeps partygoers dancing and gyrating well through the night and into the next day.DJ Tony Tempo, who started his DJ livelihood in New York City, has played some of the major carnivals and fetes around the world including Atlanta, New York, Caribana in Canada, Miami, Tampa, and Washington DC, and London, England.He has worked on the same stage as the world’s legendary Reggae and Soca stars including Krosfyah, Byron Lee and the Dragonaires, Machel Montano and Xtatik, Iwer George, Traffik, Alison Hinds and Square One, Rupee, Reggae sensation’s Sanchez and Elephant Man, The Mighty Sparrow and the Mighty Shadow.
