Submit your Earth Hour essays
How are you helping keep Bermuda Green for the future? That’s the theme of this year’s Belco Earth Hour Essay Competition in partnership with Greenrock and Bermuda National Library.Students are encouraged to write an essay showing their efforts to make Bermuda a more environmentally friendly Island.Belco spokesperson Susan McGrath-Smith said, “Last year was our first Earth Hour Essay Contest and we had a wonderful response. We hope that even more students will participate this year, as we are eager to hear the ideas presented by the future stewards of the Island’s environment, and because we hope the contest stimulates conversation about how Bermuda can become a model for Green living.”Along with being judged on content, ideas and creativity, essays will also be critiqued on grammar, spelling, punctuation and how well the essay is written. The judges also recommend essay writers include a resource page and ensure they double check the accuracy of facts and dates.Essays will be judged by representatives from Belco, Greenrock and the Bermuda National Library. Winners in each age category have the chance to win an Amazon Kindle Fire loaded with an environmental book, along with a cash prize. The essay deadline is Friday March 9 and winners will be announced during Greenrock’s Earth Hour Celebration on Saturday, March 31 at City Hall. The competition is open to all students in the specified age categories. For more information and contest rules visit www.belco.bm or contact Susan McGrath-Smith on 298-6126 or smsmith[AT]sigma.bm.
