BSX falls as Butterfield bank shares decline
The Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange Index fell 22.447 points last week to close at 3,759.23 in a quiet week of trading.
Index bellwether Butterfield Bank declined 50 cents on volume of 12,991 to close at $45.25 and Devonshire Industries fell 25 cents on volume of 100 shares to close at $14.25.
The biggest gainer was Bermuda Press (Holdings) Ltd. which was up 75 cents as investors traded 2,200 shares to close at $14. The company owns .
Kentucky Fried Chicken gained 25 cents on volume of 320 shares to close at $5.75.
Belco Holdings remained unchanged at $40.35 as investors traded just 50 shares.
The total value of the shares bought and sold on the BSX this week was $829,682.00 and the overall volume of shares was 15,769.
The Bermuda Insurance Index closed up 16.16 or 1.54 percent to 1.066.66 on Friday, but was down 8.57 points from last Friday.
Insurance stocks were rocked by the arrival of Hurricane Wilma in southern Florida at the beginning of the week. The storm could cost as much as $10 billion in insured losses.
Among the big gainers on Friday was XLCapital, up $1.84 or 3.05 percent to $62.10 on the back of a positive outlook from investment analysts .
Also gaining ground were ACE, up 2.34 percent to $51.55, Axis Specialty, up 2.33 percent to $25.91 and Aspen, which rose 1.88 percent to close at $23.86.
