Callahan gets XL job
HAMILTON, Bermuda - XL Capital Ltd yesterday announced the appointment of Mr. Mark W. Callahan as chief actuarial officer of XL's Insurance Operations.
Mr. Callahan, previously a senior underwriter for XL Financial Solutions, XL's alternative risk transfer group, will be based in Hartford and will report to Dick Miller, Chief Financial Officer of XL's Insurance Operations.
Prior to joining the XL group of companies in 1998, Mr. Callahan worked for Milliman in the US, establishing and managing its property/casualty office in Dallas and managing its Bermuda office. Mr. Callahan is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and holds a BBA in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin.
Honour for Gonsalves Lodge
Coldwell Banker JW Bermuda Realty agent Angie Gonsalves Lodge has become the first Bermuda realtor to be awarded a Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) designation by the US Council of Residential Specialists.
Coldwell Banker said Ms Gonsalves Lodge realtors who receive the designation have completed advanced courses and demonstrated professional expertise in residential real estate.
Ms Gonsalves Lodge, a former broadcast journalist, this year earned membership in Coldwell Banker's International Diamond Society, a level achieved by the top 17 percent of the more than 113,800 Coldwell Banker sales representatives around the world.
ACE's UK insurance arm renamed
ACE has renamed its UK insurance arm ACE European Group Limited.
The company, formerly known as ACE INA UK Limited, underwrites business branded as ACE Global Markets (AGM) and ACE Tempest Re. Both brands will continue to offer both company and Lloyds' security through the newly named ACE European Group Limited and ACE Underwriting Agencies Limited, as managing agent for AGM Syndicate 2488.
ACE has also announced that subject to regulatory and legal approvals, the assets, liabilities and obligations of ACE Insurance S.A.-N.V. will be transferred into the newly named ACE European Group Limited. The Belgian-based ACE Insurance S.A.-N.V. currently underwrites all ACE Europe branded P&C and A&H business in 14 European Economic Area countries. As of January 1, 2005, all ACE Europe branded business will be written by ACE European Group Limited.
Gary Schmalzriedt, chairman and chief executive officer of ACE Overseas General, said: “ACE European Group Limited will be ACE's principal operating company in Europe. Subject to regulatory approval of the transfer, on 1 January 2005 the company will represent one of the largest P&C carriers regulated by the FSA. The new name, ACE European Group Limited, is intended to better reflect both the scope and reach of ACE's fast growing European business.”
Spiering joins W.P.Stewart board
W.P. Stewart & Co., Ltd. has appointed Jan J. Spiering to its Board of Directors of the company, effective immediately.
Mr. Spiering is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and is the retired Managing Partner and Chairman of Ernst & Young Bermuda, a firm which he joined in 1979.
