Cingular pledges top quality service for local customers
Cingular Wireless has reaffirmed its commitment to providing local customers with service after completing the buyout of AT&T Wireless Services on October 26 this year.
Cingular Wireless acquired the local operations of AT&T Wireless Bermuda as part of the merger that made it the biggest wireless carrier and the largest digital voice and data network in North America with a total of 46 million customers.
In a Press release, Cingular said it would offer consumers ?maximum convenience and flexibility, improved reliability, enhanced call quality and the widest array of new and advanced services?.
The company, which is a joint venture between SBC Communications and BellSouth Corp., also plans to move forward with expansion plans begun by AT&T Wireless.
Specifically, Cingular will continue to bring the latest wireless advances to former AT&T Wireless customers in the Caribbean and Bermuda. It also anticipates launching service in Curacao, St. Kitts and Nevis, Anguilla, Jamaica, Martinique, Guadeloupe, St. Martin and St. Barth?s next year and aims to acquire licenses in even more Caribbean markets including Turks and Caicos and Trinidad and Tobago.

We are committed to giving consumers the coverage, the phones the capabilities and the call clarity they deserve,? said Jordan Roderick executive vice president of Cingular?s International unit. ?We are also committed to expanding the availability of our high-speed Third Generation services to the regions ever growing community of mobile date users.?
Like AT&T Wireless, Cingular uses GSM/GPRS technology.
With the merger, it now offers the largest international coverage of any carrier that serves Bermuda and the Caribbean.
The company said in the Press release, that former AT&T Wireless customers may continue to use their current phones, rate plans and features without any service interruption. Cingular will soon start communicating with customers through advertising and direct communication channels.
