Conference rescheduled
BOSTON (Reuters) - One of the secretive hedge fund industry's splashiest events has been rescheduled for late November, after a powerful hurricane ploughed into Bermuda and forced organisers to scrap the September gathering.
The 10th annual MAR/Hedge conference will be held at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel in Florida from November 19 to 21, Jeannie Lee, a conference organiser, told Reuters on Tuesday.
Hundreds of hedge fund managers, lawyers and bankers were told to stay away when Hurricane Fabian knocked out power and ripped roofs off buildings around Bermuda just as the conference, scheduled for September 7-9, was to begin.
The hurricane was the most powerful to hit the island in 50 years and damaged the Fairmont Southampton Princess Hotel, where the conference is traditionally held. The conference has long been a favourite in the $600 billion hedge fund industry, offering participants a chance to network and relax.
