Gym owners decide not to leave Island
The owners of Magnum Power Force Gym have reversed plans to sell their gym and are now simply going to move to a much larger location in Hamilton.
Ron and Karen Magnum put their Front Street gym on the market late last month for a sale price of $595,000. The couple had planned to leave the Island for a change of scenery, but Mr. Magnum said that they had changed their minds about leaving and instead secured a change of scenery within Hamilton.
Mr. Magnum said: "This is what I do and I don't feel like starting somewhere else."
The couple plan to move the gym and the associated Diet Centre to the new location within Hamilton in the next four to six months. It measures some 11,000 square feet, more than twice as large as the 4,700 square foot space they currently occupy.
Mr. Magnum was unwilling to disclose the location of the future premises, but is in the midst of having plans drawn up.
Their planned move is one of three announced in recent weeks. Last week The Athletic Club announced plans to leave its rental space on Washington Street for a 15,000 square foot purpose built facility it plans to construct on Wesley Street and Park Road. Total Fitness remains on the lookout for a new home with its landlord Purvis Ltd. planning to knock down its Burnaby Street premises to construct a mixed use environmentally friendly building.
