Local companies strut their stuff

Over 500 would-be investors turned out at the weekend to see what local companies had to offer at "Invest Bermuda".

The event, held at XL House, the new XL building on Bermudiana Road, saw more people come through the door than last year.

Joanne MacPhee, Corporate Communications Manager at the BSX, hailed the event as a success.

She said: "We are delighted at the turn-out. We had about 500 people through the door, which is more than last year."

Eleven booths of companies listed on the exchange took up space in the foyer of the XL building and seminars about investing were held in the conference rooms.

Ms MacPhee said the BSX is planning to have its next Invest Bermuda in September next year, when this event was originally scheduled to take place

For the event the BSX teamed up with the Chamber of Commerce's "Buy Bermuda" campaign to encouraged investors to buy into businesses on the rock.

Bad weather forced the Bermuda Stock Exchange cancelled their planned "Invest Bermuda" forum, which is designed to help Bermudians and residents become better informed about local businesses on the stock exchange.

Most of the local listed companies had booths that were manned by top executives to answer the public's questions.

Invest Bermuda was originally scheduled to take place 13th October but was postponed at the last minute after Hurricane Karen buffeted the island.
