New chief for Asia Global Crossing
Troubled Bermuda-registered telecommunications carrier Global
Crossing Ltd. said on Friday that Chief Executive Officer John
Legere will no longer also serve as CEO of Asia Global Crossing. Reuters reported that John (Jack) Scanlon, vice chairman of Asia Global Crossing, will assume the responsibilities of CEO and William Barney, currently president of business services at Asia Global Crossing, will become that company's president and chief operating officer.
Legere will focus solely on Global Crossing, but will continue to serve as a director of Asia Global Crossing, the Hamilton, Bermuda-based company said.
Asia Global Crossing, whose largest shareholders include Global Crossing, Softbank and Microsoft, provides the Asia Pacific region
with integrated telecommunications and IP services.
Two weeks ago, Global Crossing said it had obtained a waiver from its lenders for potential violations of a credit agreement covering $2.25 billion in borrowings. Global Crossing said it will continue discussions with its creditors about the terms of its credit agreement as the company pursues discussions with potential equity investors.
