NY Mayor-elect under fire over Island visit
A report in the New York Post criticised Mayor-elect and Tuckers Town resident Mike Bloomberg for jetting off to Bermuda for the weekend.
The article had the headline "BERMUDA BLOOMY: MIND YOUR BUSINESS" and ran on Wednesdays edition of the newspaper.
It stated: "Mayor-elect Mike Bloomberg insisted yesterday it's nobody's business that he jetted off to Bermuda for a weekend getaway - although an aide had claimed he was hard at work on his transition."
"My personal life is my personal life," Mr. Bloomberg is quoted as saying. "What [government employees do . . . as long as they don't embarrass the city, they have a right to their personal life."
The article also quotes Mr. Bloomberg spokesman Jerry Russo said on Sunday that the new mayor had hunkered down in meetings from 7 a.m. to midnight all weekend.
It added: "But The Post revealed yesterday that Bloomberg was really enjoying an island vacation at his $10.5 million mansion, The Post revealed."
It also said that in addition to his homes in Bermuda, London, Vail, New York and Westchester, adding: "the billionaire mayor has a fleet of planes at his disposal when he gets the urge for some R&R."
It said that Mr. Bloomberg, a licensed pilot, owns a high-performance single-engine plane for quick jaunts.
It said: "The Mooney Bravo M20M - which cost about $350,000 when Bloomberg bought it in 1993 - seats four and is designed for one mission, according to the manufacturer: 'To go high and to go fast'."
