Partners aim to promote real estate
Two Bermudians have formed a partnership to market real estate to people living on the island. The condos, homes, and residential lots are, however, located in the northwest part of Costa Rica in Guanacaste province.
Dan Tucker, formerly of the T-shirt business, and Jimmy Maitland, who works in incentive business, formed the real estate company Latin Multimerc Holdings SA just over a year ago.
Mr. Tucker said that Costa Rica ? particularly his real estate zone of the northwest province which is a dry forest climatic zone ? is an attractive place for locals to own property.
?There are a lot of Bermudians who actually live in Costa Rica and there is a tremendous interest it. It is the hottest real estate market in world right now because it is the hottest destination in the world right now. The two go hand in hand.?
Mr. Tucker said that Costa Rica was also served by a number of carriers that served Bermuda via hubs in the US such as Houston, Atlanta and soon Miami.
The partners say the northwestern part of Costa Rica also now boasts its own international airport.
?The property values are very low compared obviously to Bermuda. The company taxes, the property taxes are very low and for a lot of people it is about lifestyle. It affords people golf, fishing, hiking, bird watching, backpacking, body or board surfing and white water rafting. There are diverse activities available,? said Mr. Tucker.
Mr. Tucker said that so far his clients had mostly been baby boomers. They are generally seeking turnkey condos and townhouses though some are interested in commercial real estate even farms.
