Boat lover Robert Sousa is seeking to offer east end boat owners a state-of-the-art marine repair facility with yesterday?s opening of AMR Marine Repairs.

Mr. Sousa operated a small auto repair garage in Hamilton but spotted an opportunity to develop a top line marine repair facility at Southside in St. David?s, an area tailor made for businesses requiring sufficient space to expand their horizons.

?A marine business down here has a lot of potential because there are many boat owners at the east end of the Island with limited access to a boat repair centre and a place to find marine accessories,? Mr. Sousa said.

He has transformed an empty shell of a building and created an all purpose marine service centre.

Apart from servicing and refurbishing boats, he will continue to provide auto mechanic repairs for cars which he has been doing as a certified mechanic for the last 25 years.

?We are planning to target those customers going to the airport and leaving the Island for a week or two weeks who need their cars serviced or taxis that may need an oil change.?

?We will pick up a customer?s car from the airport, service the car and when they return to the airport after arriving at Customs, they can call us and we will deliver their car to them, having completed the required work.?

AMR Marine Repairs can repair all types of boats, conduct mechanical inspections, electrical and engine repairs, boat spray painting, fibre glass repairs and specialises in Marine Diesel Engines.

Mr. Sousa said he has established good relationships with overseas suppliers so parts can obtain within a few days.

A keen boat enthusiast all his life Mr. Sousa feels this new location will enable him to provide first class service to boat owners in a secure, modern venue equipped with a show room and a boat storage area.
