Spinning Wheel spruces up in bid to attract cruise visitors
Spinning Wheel Entertainment Complex managing director Steve Simons is vowing to transform the Court Street night spot into a sophisticated entertainment venue along international standards.
Mr. Simons, who is also vice-chairman of the Uptown Market Association, said with new CCTV cameras in operation, Court Street is undergoing a renaissance and shedding its unsavoury image.
?Businesses in the area are very pleased that this fledgling organisation is making some things happen and their voice is being heard,? he said.
?One of our first objectives was to get the CCTV cameras up, so we have taken a large step forward in the revitalisation of our community.
?As this is an economic empowerment zone, we are expecting significant change in the ambience of the area.?
Leading by example, Mr. Simons has been spearheading efforts to invest in the security and d?cor of the large Spinning Wheel complex which contains the ABC Bistro, the Gable Lounge, a swimming pool, apartments, a venue for live entertainment and a sports lounge.
With the support of the Department of Tourism, the club has entered into negotiations with Norwegian Cruise Lines to provide their passengers with a variety of entertainment.
?The arrangement is to bring up to 200 people via a shuttle service and taxis will be made available for them when they leave,? Mr. Simons said.
?The negotiations are nearing completion and they should (begin) transporting their passengers (to the club) in the next seven to 14 days.
?We are offering the entertainment they are looking for with Salsa, steel pan, comedy, and limbo at our Island Festival Extravaganza,? Mr. Simons said.
?We are rebranding ourselves as a sophisticated nightclub and sports lounge for mature, sophisticated adults.?
The Spinning Wheel club has been operating for 35 years. It was started by Larry Burgess Sr., Gladwin Ming and Victor Parish.
?These gentleman left behind a great legacy and because of the love the founders put into this place, and because of the history of the Spinning Wheel, it will be one of the places that tourists visit when they arrive,? Mr. Simons said.
