Tyco got SEC request for data

(Bloomberg) ? Tyco International Ltd., the world's biggest maker of security systems and electrical connectors, said the Securities and Exchange Commission wants information about its participation, if any, in the United Nations oil-for-food program that governs the sale of Iraqi oil.

The company said in a regulatory filing that it will cooperate in any investigation. The SEC made the request in November. No other details were given.

The UN began the oil-for-food program to let former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein use oil revenue to buy food and medicine. Investigators in the US Senate have said Hussein stole $21.3 billion through the program, which was supposed to support UN sanctions on Iraq from 1996 to 2003.

Shares of Bermuda-based Tyco rose 11 cents yesterday to $34.42 in New York Stock Exchange composite trading. The stock has risen 30 percent this year.

Tyco spokesman David Polk said the company wouldn't comment beyond the filing.
