BFIS scholarships

Students studying corporate law, computer science and accounting will now be eligible for large scholarships from the Bermuda Foundation For Insurance Studies.

Up to ten major scholarships are offered by the Bermuda Foundation For Insurance Studies (BFIS) to students interested in entering Bermuda's booming insurance sector. Scholarships range from $15,000 to $30,000 a year for up to four years' study at overseas universities.

BFIS Executive Director, Catherine Lapsley, said, "Since the beginning of the academic year I have personally spoken to over 400 students and in many cases their parents too about the availability of, not only our scholarships, but all the hundreds of scholarships being offered to students to study almost every subject you can think of."

"This year our Board of Trustees, who are leaders in the insurance industry which funds BFIS, agreed to broaden the scope of the preferred subjects students may be studying to include computer science, accounting and corporate law. Other subjects are insurance, risk management, finance, economics, actuarial science and Math."

The deadline was yesterday.
