Electricians' national certificate date switched

There has been a chance to the commencement date for electricians to apply for the National Occupation Certification.

The new date is September 10, which replaces the original date of August 31.

According to the National Training Board (NTB) the change in the application dates has been necessitated due to capacity and logistical challenges " which the NTB is working around the clock to overcome."

However, the deadline for application submission is still September 27.

All electricians are invited to submit their applications for National Certification at the NTB's National Occupation Certification Centre at Jamita House, 83 Reid Street.

National Certification is intended to provide recognition to tradespersons for their skills and knowledge in their lines of trade and also validates the important role that tradespeople play in the Bermudian economy.

In the first phase, electrical, welding and automotive trades have been identified as designated occupations and whose practitioners are required to be Nationally Certified, to a global standard.

The certification program is expected to enhance the skill set acquired by tradespersons and will provide additional employment and marketing opportunities.

All electricians, automotive technicians and welders are required to be nationally certified by December 31, 2009 if they wish to work within their trade. Employers will also be required to ensure that all employees within the relevant trade positions have achieved their national certification.
