KINGSTON (MARKET WIRE) - Digicel Group, the largest mobile operator in the Caribbean, with operations in Bermuda, and new entrant to Central America, yesterday announced the promotion of Ghada Gebara, former CEO of Digicel Haiti, as the new regional CEO to lead Digicel's French Caribbean operations: Haiti, French West Indies and French Guiana, into their next stage of dynamic growth.
Appointed as the new CEO of Digicel Haiti, Patrice Pezat will report to Ms. Gebara, who will share her time between Haiti, Martinique, Guadeloupe and French Guiana. Digicel Haiti has acquired 1.7 million customers since launching in May 2006 and is the fastest-growing operation amongst Digicel Group's 22 markets.
"We are pleased to promote Ghada Gebara to the role of regional CEO of Haiti, French West Indies and French Guiana," said Digicel Group CEO Colm Delves. "Ghada has played a pivotal role in ensuring that Digicel Haiti has not only expanded at a dynamic rate to meet demand but also quickly won the confidence of the Haitian people to become the number one mobile provider of choice."
"Following our 2006 launch into the French-speaking Caribbean, Digicel has now entered into our next stage of expansion and assembled a solid management team to execute our business plans. We are confident that Ghada, Patrice and their team bring the right skill set and perspective to drive critical growth in the French-speaking Caribbean, which have already proven to be very exciting, rewarding mobile markets for the company," added Mr. Delves.
Digicel launched in Guadeloupe, Martinique and French Guiana in July 2006 following the acquisition of Bouygues Telecom Caraibe.
Coverage areas also include St. Barths and French St. Martin.
As CEO, Ms. Gebara - who joined Digicel Haiti in August 2005 - led the operations through a phenomenally successful launch and first year of growth.
