Gorham's goes green on Earth Day

Green is good: Michael Tavares prepares the "green area" at Gorham's Earth Day display.

Local hardware store Gorham's celebrated Earth Day yesterday by highlighting what the company believes is a growing demand for environmentally-friendly products.

All the company's staff wore tee-shirts marking Earth Day, a world-wide event focusing on environmental issues, and the company staged a display of its own range of "green" products.

The range includes environmentally-friendly cleaning products and paints, recycled trash bags and super-efficient lightbulbs, as well as electric bikes.

"We had a booth at the Ag Show last weekend when the reaction to our green products was very favourable," Gorham's purchasing manager Ann Lindo said yesterday. "There is definitely demand there and it's an area we will probably expand in the future."

The display, at the front of the store, will remain on show for the rest of the week.
