1) Make sure you have enough food and water for at least one to two weeks in case stores are shut.

2) Have strong sturdy construction boots to walk through water and debris.

3) Use a backpack to carry goods.

4) Get hold of a wind-up flashlight for when the electrical lighting is out of action.

5) Seal items in airtight Ziploc bags - they can keep goods dry such as passports, driving licenses, work permits, children's toys and toilet rolls and even be used to keep children afloat.

6) To prevent causing fire from naked flames, use safety light sticks that last for 12 hours.

7) Every office should have one - make sure you have a first aid kit in the event of injury or illness.

8) Have a water filter handy to make sea water or dirty water drinkable.

9) Always have a tool, such as a hammer or pickaxe, if you need to get out in an emergency.

10) A water backpack is also useful when you need to transport water easily.
