Philip Butterfield for Finance Minister? Election speculation reaches overdrive
On the final run-in to the election The Royal Gazette business team tested the temperature in the corporate world to find out how tomorrow's vote was being sized up.
What was gathered amongst the gossip snippets ranged from an election prediction to a notion that Bank of Bermuda boss Philip Butterfield might be a future Finance Minister if Dr. Ewart Brown leads the new Government.
One Bermudian businessman said: "It's going to be a watershed election, just like 1998, but this one is going to be about leadership."
The boss of an exempt company, gave his appraisal: "I think the best outcome would be a narrow win for the PLP, with Paula Cox becoming the Premier. I don't know if the UBP are ready yet to be the Government, they need to get a bit closer first."
Eyebrows were raised highest by a comment from another observer who believes Dr. Brown intends to appoint his brother Mr. Butterfield as Finance Minister.
Who is right, who is wrong, we shall see what tomorrow brings.
