Ready and waiting: Scott Hill, of This Week in Bermuda, prepares for the relaunch of the famous magazine

This Week in Bermuda is set to hit the streets on Monday with a brand new look thanks to a revamp by marketing and advertising manager Scott Hill.

The magazine, which is one of the Island's oldest and most famous tourist information publications, starting out in 1931, was rescued from the scrap heap in 2007and is now set for a relaunch by Mr. Hill.

Only last year the magazine, which had its first issue released by Bermuda Press (Holdings) Ltd. in 1947, celebrated its 60th anniversary, and now it can look forward to a bright new future under the leadership and guidance of Mr. Hill.

"This magazine is going to be a visitor and local orientated magazine," said Mr. Hill.

In this same vein, the magazine will be running a competition exclusively for locals to win a trip courtesy of Continental Airlines three to four times a year, starting in the launch issue next week.

Meanwhile, Mr. Hill is keen to make the magazine's advertisers are visible as possible, with an Artist of the Month section, kicking off with Graham Foster, who is currently working at Commissioner's House, and Chef of the Month, first up featuring Jean-Claude Garzia, owner of the Lemon Tree Cafe and French Chef of the Year in 1996, who will be opening up a new restaurant called Beaurivage in Newstead-Belmont Hills with panoramic views across the harbour of Hamilton, while Solomon's Fine Jewellers, which has been in business since 1974, heads up the opening Business of the Month section, alongside a number of profiled artists and photographers.

There will also opportunity to give feedback on the magazine, while a map of Dockyard, which provides free advertising to companies in the area courtesy of local businessman Dennis Correira, of Correira Construction Co. Ltd.

"It is a new format - everything has changed in the magazine."

The publication is headed up by general manager Horst Augustinovic, of Printlink, owners of Bermuda Communications Directory, with graphic artist Peter Marsh involved in the design of the product, which will be printed by Bermuda Press.

Among the writers, including Mr. Hill, will be Charles Zuill, on art, Roger Crombie, on business, Liz Jones, on 'Talk of the Rock' (a what's on guide looking at the latest activities and things to do), and Graham Maddocks, on Bermuda's underwater environment, while Niamh Denbrook will write a section entitled 'Feel the Love' for Government's Department of Tourism.

The magazine will be handed out by students at 180 locations Island-wide, including at the Visitor Information Centres, while they will also be on hand to dish out copies to tourists arriving at the LF Wade International Airport and all of cruise ship terminals.

"My passion for the magazine is number one - its gives me the opportunity to showcase my photographs and showcase Bermuda's artists and meet all these different types of people," said Mr. Hill.
