Airlines announce seat sales

carriers Delta, US Airways and Continental are offering cut price flights to various US east and west coast destinations between now and February 15.

Prices start at $203 for a mid-week departure to Boston, Baltimore or Philadelphia. Other places include Los Angeles at $460, New York at $244 and Miami at $344, all prices are for mid-week travel.

Other cities are also available.

Bookings must be made by October 13 and the minimum stay is one Sunday after departure. Blackout dates also apply.

British Airways also recently announced its lowest fare of the year for travel to the UK from Bermuda.

On special dates this month, passengers will be able to fly to London Gatwick or Manchester for $499 return.

The special fare will apply to those people who can travel out on October 15 and 22, and return on the 15, 22 and 31 of this month.

Bermuda BA sales account manager Doris Pearse said the fare was good for people who could travel at short notice.

Tickets must be purchased within 72 hours of booking and are subject to availability. For more details contact BA or a travel agent.

HERON 3 AIDS SLEEPY ALLIGATOR RES Heron 3 aids Sleepy Alligator On Friday, the 22 foot local craft, Sleepy Alligator with one person on board reported his boat had become disabled north of Cobbler's Cut. The Police launch, Heron 3 attended and towed the boat safely to its mooring in Mills Creek.

HARBOUR RADIO SUFFERING PHONE FAULTS RAO Harbour Radio suffering phone faults Harbour Radio is advising members of the public that an intermittent fault has been disrupting telephone calls on their main line of 297-1010.

The problem came to light late last week, and with the help of BTC, has now been traced to the St. George's telephone exchange.

Until repair work is completed some disruption to service may result, but 24 hour marine emergency assistance from the Rescue Co-ordination Centre at Harbour Radio is available by calling 911 and requesting Marine Rescue.

Meanwhile general shipping and marine information enquiries should be directed to telephone number 297-0686 in the event 297-1010 fails.

Harbour Radio is hoping the fault will be completely corrected by early this week.

THIEVES OUT IN FORCE OVER WEEKEND CRM Thieves out in force over weekend A Sony radio and cassette player was reported stolen from the Salvation Army building on Cambridge road in Sandy's parish. The complainant said the radio was removed between midnight and 12 p.m. Friday.

Three `Makita hammers' and a `Skill Saw' were reported stolen from a shed on Rockville Road in Pembroke.

The complainant said the shed was left secured on Friday evening, and the culprit used force to gain entry. A van parked nearby was also entered by force and an amount of coins was removed from the ashtray.

An unknown culprit entered a room at the Pompano Beach Hotel in Southampton and stole an amount of cash.

The complainants said the culprit entered through an unsecured door overnight Thursday while they slept. Once inside the culprit searched through two wallets, removing cash in various denominations.

A thief broke into the Salvation Army Thrift Store on King Street, Pembroke.

The complainant said that she arrived at the store at 8.30 a.m. Saturday and found signs that it had been forcibly entered.

The culprit searched through the office area and removed a bank bag containing cash before fleeing the area. Nothing else was reported stolen.

Eastern CID is investigating the theft of a green satchel from an unattended cycle parked at the Fort St. Catherine Beach in St. George's.

The complainant said he left the bag on his auxiliary cycle at approximately 4.45 p.m. Saturday, while he went to the beach to take photographs.

When he returned he found that someone had removed the bag and left the area.

Acting on information received, Marine Police attended the area and found the bag floating offshore.

Several items including film, cash, a camera bag, clothing and a wallet had been removed.

A thief entered a room at the Rosedon Guest House on Rosemont Avenue, Pembroke.

The complainant said they left the room secured at approximately 6.45 p.m.

Saturday, and returned later that evening to find signs that someone had been inside.

After checking their belongings, they noticed a wallet containing several bank cards and cash was missing. Inquiries are underway.

A would-be thief was foiled when he disturbed a guest staying at the Pompano Beach Club on Saturday Night.

The complainant said he was surprised by the culprit coming down from the balcony above, and that the male ran off toward the golf course.

A brief struggle ensued, but the culprit was able to escape on foot. Police arrived and searched the area without any success.

Nothing was reported stolen during the incident.

AGITATED MAN GOES FOR A CLIMB HTH POL FIR Agitated man goes for a climb Police and Fire services worked together to bring a man down to safety after he climbed a radio tower at Somerset Police Station.

The 44-year-old Sandys man had been brought in to the station in a very agitated state at 3.40 p.m. Saturday, and Police were in the process of assisting him when he made his way to the back yard of the station, climbed halfway up the antenna and refused to come down.

After negotiating with Police and Firefighters, the man was brought down safely and conveyed to hospital for evaluation.
