Although she retired, she is back to work and happy to be there
Edith Godwin is one of the longest serving employees of The Harbourmaster where she was employed full time for 18 years. She loves her work and returned part time following retirement.
During 1999 she was recipient of the Visitor Industry Partnership Award in the retail category. The ceremony was held at the Southampton Princess Hotel.
Mrs. Godwin remarked: "They honoured me for being the outstanding sales person for the Island and I was very pleasantly surprised.'' When asked how she came to work at The Harbourmaster she explained that many years ago she was in and out of the store.
"My nephew suggested I apply to work there, I did and I retired about four years ago but I couldn't stay away. I have been working part time since my retirement,'' she said with a smile.
Mrs. Godwin loves meeting people and helping them make their selections from the excellent inventory at The Harbourmaster.
She is particularly fond of her repeat customers and says the store has lovely items for everyone.Their products are made from the best leathers and other materials from around the world.
Another reason for Mrs. Godwin's longevity at The Harbourmaster is her boss, Mrs. Sheilagh Robertson, described as kind hearted and patient. The two have always shared a good working relationship.
" `Land' is a popular leather collection from South America. Personally, I adore leather handbags. I like a good handbag with two or three compartments with a secure zip and a flap which snaps over to secure contents. My basic colour recommendation is navy, tan and black,'' she advised.
The Harbourmaster's success is due to the quality of goods and the excellent service rendered according to Mrs. Godwin. They try their best to keep their customers happy.

In her spare time Mrs. Godwin has a passion for reading and craft work.
"I guess in ten years I will be home knitting and sewing and more receptive to retirement.'' Additionally she loves to travel and has seen a good portion of the world. She likes to go to the US, Australia, Canada and England.
Edric Godwin is her husband and they have shared almost 41 years of marriage, have four children and three grandchildren.
